Thom Brajkovich works from a philosophy that architecture should blend naturally with the environment. Before beginning every project, he visits the client’s land several times in order to get an appreciation of the place where the house will rest. His clients fill in a questionnaire that begins the process of fitting their needs to the land’s, a process that continues until he has a clear understanding of their goals.
Color, style, textures, proportion and composition all play into his designs. He also brings a sensibility for historical form and shape to his work, the result of having lived and practiced in Europe for five years. Those values have led him to believe in natural, ecological and sustainable architecture.
An award-winning architect in both new construction and restoration, Brajkovich designs exclusive homes and commercial properties, as well as cutting-edge sustainable buildings using straw bale, PISE (rammed earth), and ICF (insulated concrete form).
Yet he is also discerning of the practicalities of home construction—his 25 years as a builder and architect enable him to aid his clients in their important decisions regarding budgets, construction and materials. He can develop design solutions on the spot and can sketch them clearly and quickly. His strength lies in interpreting his clients’ requirements accurately, a critical outcome of his commitment to flexibility—he works by the dictum that there’s no place in a home for the architect’s ego; his focus is on what his clients need as well as desire.
That’s a philosophy that adds up to sustainability and design uniqueness.
